BlogCruise Lines & FerriesVideo Selection

Introduction by: Peter Marshall

This is a global exclusive. Last month I was delighted to be invited to go on board Aroya whilst docked at Galataport in Istanbul. You will have read about Aroya and certainly seen some initial images. But in this video we provide you with the full picture of the remarkable retail offering on the ship.

Gebr. Heinemann is now responsible for creating and operating the largest retail space at sea. At 1603 sq m across three decks, this is a regionally-tailored retail proposition specifically dedicated to cater to the unique tastes and expectations of Middle Eastern travellers – especially families from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region. Around one third of the 3000+ passengers are children. It really is a unique operation.

As you will see, the stores’ interiors echo the Arabian landscape with design motifs emblematic of the Red Sea marine life, palm trees and sand. There are private shopping areas for women, too, to reflect regional cultural sensitivities. And, in an industry first, there is a dedicated web store, accessible through the Aroya app, which allows passengers to browse, pre-order and reserve products for collection.

There can be little doubt that this venture consolidates Heinemann’s leadership in cruise retail, building on its already strong track record with major cruise and airport operations. It also clearly signals the company’s commitment to the rapidly growing tourism and luxury market in Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC. Watch this space.
